iPhone 5 won't charge

I can't get my iPhone to charge, the battery has been drained all the way to 0%, so the phone is basically unusable right now. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have googled it, but no luck so far. Was hoping someone here may have some insight.

Get a new chord

When you plug in the charger, what does the phone do? Does it make a tone or even recognize that the charger is plugged in?
Not trying to be a jerk here but have you checked the obvious-the charger is plugged in on the other end?
If you're using one of those little "ice cubes" as I call them, the wall chargers, try plugging the phone directly into your computer and see if it charges that way.
Maybe the cord itself is messed up.

Good advice on checking the cord first. I have three lightning chargers just in case.
Next step could be as simple as replacing the battery. Have you dropped your phone recently or done anything while the phone was plugged in that the receiver may have been damaged and can't receive a charge. Very unlikely though

Or maybe there is nothing wrong with the CORD and the CABLE is bad.

It does nothing, like it doesn't even recognize it. I have tried into both the wall and the computer. iTunes doesn't recognize the phone either.

Get a known good lightning cable and plug it into the wall charger and leave the phone alone for a couple of hours. If the battery drains all the way down to 0%, sometimes it takes a while before the phone responds to anything.

Sounds like the cord is bad.
You have another one you can try? Do you keep one in your car?
Maybe try that one.
I doubt it's the phone itself. I think it's the cord that for one reason or another, has just stopped working.

Bad cord?
I thought I got a bad cord, once. It turns out that it was just too green and not dried out enough. It ended up being a great cord and allowed us to survive the harsh Louisiana winter.

I don't, but hopefully someone at work tomorrow will, so I can try it.

I think you're phone itself is fine. Just get a new cord and you should be good to go.

:ducking:
HERE IT COMES
Get an Android, after working on my mothers ipad and Iphone I just don't understand why so many people are Apple sheep. The Android does so much more and does it better. Apple products seem like technology for dummies, so basic and so limited.

Sounds like a bad cord.
Make sure its an Apple Iphone 5 cord, not a knock off. The update to the newest iOS made it so the phone can detect whether or not the cord is official. If it isn't from Apple then it will almost never work. Also, I've come to find that putting just the cable into a different usb transformer to outlet other than the provided one from Apple will burn your cables out rather quickly.

I have to see one magical thing an android can do that is worth a shite to me. Over 90% of the people with tablets use them to surf the net and play games. Something they're all good at these days. What magical powers do these android devices hold exactly?

It is an official Apple one. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. I will try a different cord tomorrow.

50 to 1 it's the cord, the part where the wire hooks to the little quick connect closest to the phone

I had this problem one time and it turned out it was actually from lint in the charging port. I just stuck a clothespin in there, pulled the lint out and the problem was solved.

Must just be my charger. Tried charging with a co-workers charger and it is charging fine. Thanks to everyone for suggestions.
