I have a Dell Inspiron mini 1018 running Windows 7 Starter that is a few years old. I upgraded laptops a couple years ago and now want to see if I can find a file on the old Inspiron. Problem is, I can't remember my password. No password hint, either.
There is only one account on the computer and it is set as the administrator, so I can't simply log in as admin to change the password.
There is no CD drive on this little netbook so anything to do with re-installation via CD is out of the question. I have been trying to use software and tips I've seen online all day and nothing has seemed to work. Anybody had a similar experience?
Thanks in advance.

Your google link took me to an exact page I've already tried. Tried the top 7 links and nothing worked. Came here to see if anybody here is more useful than Google.

Just throw the old one away. Move on. Forget the files.

Option 1: Create Hirenz boot thumb drive. Boot to mini XP, copy file.
Option 2: Pull drive and use USB to SATA cable, connect to new PC and copy file.

Hiren's Boot CD click the link on the bottom to download. Download that. Unzip the file. There should be an application setup to burn it to a cd. Click that. Burn it to a blank CD. Put that CD in that laptop and boot from the CD (that you CAN google to learn how to do if you don't). Choose the login without password option from the list.

That's not nearly as fun as cracking the password from Hiren's!

You need to download the CD image - it sould be an iso file I believe. Burn that iso image to a CD. Boot the locked PC with the CD in the cd drive.

Get a copy of hiren's boot CD.
Its got a selection of password utilities that will help you out.
ETA: I am very late to the game, here.

Is there an option to burn it to a flashdrive? The mini doesn't have a CD drive and I don't have an external drive.

Take out the hard drive and attach it to another computer and search for your file through windows explorer.

Tried all except taking hard drive out and attaching it to another computer. Nothing worked. Would get it downloaded to USB drive, set the USB to boot first, and it would just go straight past it.
Guess I'll have to get the hard drive attached to my new computer later.

Did you follow the directions carefully for making a bootable USB? You can't just copy the file to the drive.
