Yeah SAL...going through it right now with my in-laws, although FIL is more dementia than Alzheimers. Many days, wish he had Alzhemiers, might be easier on the wife. We took away his car and he calls bitching about it every 5-10 minutes screaming we stole his car, money, etc. MIL is 85 and FIL is 84. Told my wife the worst thing both are excellent health, so we facing another 9-10 years of this.
Have around the clock care at home, but GD, that is costing a fortune. Of course, they have no retirement, no savings, etc. So, u know who is footing the bill

LC, dad is pretty passive at this point but my mom is paranoid and delusional. When we took my dad's car away a couple of years ago, he went ballistic for about a year. That was his last part of his independence and control. Very nasty experience.

They are in a nursing home leaving together but I have just recently been informed that because of their cognitive problems, they need much more care each and will have to be split up into two different rooms. I visit several times a week and can see the rapid decline in their mental condition. I am not sure the split will help anything. They will soon run out of their money and 24/7 help will be very draining.
I can tell everyone out there, if you can afford long term health insurance, buy it now.
