Team stat bubba, sorry to break it to ya.

That's like saying that Blake Griffin is the best offensive player in the league bc the Clips lead the league in Points per possession

So, we jumped from the low 20s to number 1 overall, and the only thing that changed was the addition of Marc Gasol.

Look, I get it. You buy into the commercialism of the game, not the actual on floor product. It's ok, most fans do that, I'm not holding it against you.

Sorry, to the Pelicans fans OTB. I'll take my leave, no sense is cluttering your team board.

No way is Davis the best rim defender in the league. He's a great shot-blocker, but not the best rim defender.

A great rim defender can single-handedly bring a team's defense from bad to decent or from decent to good.

If Davis was the best rim defender in the league, there is no way the Pelicans defense would be as bad as it was this year.

So Asik is better than AD's backup. Didn't need your stats to tell us that.

Or how about this one for you:

Roy hibbert faced 419 shots.
Of those 419, 54.4% were 'close range shots'.
Of those 228 attempts, 38.2% were made.
Totalling up to: 87 made shots out of 228 attempts

Dwight howard faced 409 shots.
Of those 409, 48.2% were 'close range shots'.
Of those 197 attempts, 45.7% were made.

Totalling up to: 90 made shots out of 197 attempts

So even though he makes them defer, which we all know he does, when he's tested, he actually allowed more shots than hibbert did although hibbert was tested more often.

i.e. you should attack the rim against howard more often than not.

I never talked about Gasol.

I'm just showing you Dwight isn't the best and it should have been called the Hibbert Effect. The guy allowed lower %s across the board even though he allowed a tad bit more shots than dwight up close.

If you want Gasols' #s
344 shots faced
52.6% were up close
of those 181 shots, 51.9% were made

94 shots made

ETA:
Dwight D mid range
131 shots attempted (38.2%) - 50 made
Dwight D 3pt range
78 shots attempted (43.6%) - 34 made
Totalling: 174/409 for 42.54% made shots when he's defending

Gasol D mid range
91 shots attempted (33.0%) - 30 made
Gasol D 3pt range
67 shots attempted (32.8%) - 22 made
Totalling: 146/344 for 42.44% made shot when he's defending

NO it's rightfully called the Dwight effect because teams shoot less at the rim v Dwight than others. Did you read the paper or not?

Fine, its called the dwight effect because he makes people take jump shots.

Doesn't take away the fact, Hibbert > Dwight in defense

Howard - Totalling: 174/409 for 42.54% made shots when he's defending

Gasol - Totalling: 146/344 for 42.44% made shot when he's defending

Gasol > Howard

No one is arguing howard doesn't alter people's shot selection.

What you fail to realize is that Gasol and Hibbert allow lower % of the shots they defend from anywhere. Hibbert being better than Dwight in regards to close to the rim, but Gasol is not (to the misinformed mind).

So even though Dwight is a better shot alterer, he's not the best rim defender. That goes to Hibbert.
