Is being racist always wrong?

rac·ist
'rasist/
noun
1.
a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.
adjective
1.
having or showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another.
So is there any circumstances where being racist as described above is acceptable? Isn't this akin to having pride in ones culture? Indians for instance generally believe in arranged marriages to other Indians which is most certainly a racist practice, but is it wrong?
Or is it only when the person who harbors racist ideology uses this belief to harm someone else that racism becomes a thing to be shunned?

Look I know all the jokes and preconceived opinions, but I'd honestly would like to know what people really think in their hearts and not what they want other people to think they believe.

...I'm not joking....take an honest look around....you know that this is the way the politically correct world works right now....You know it....but you can't say it, because it's not "politically correct"

So is that definition btw.
At least insofar as it's incomplete.
Racism entails belief in intrinsic superiority (and intrinsic inferiority) of particular races. It also implies derisive behavior towards members of another race on the basis of that belief.

So NC, have you ever wished you were a different race? And I don't mean in passing, but a true longing to be a different race?

Doesn't racism necessitate ill-will or hatred?

It can but it doesn't have to be taken to an extreme. Asians wanting their kids to marry other Asians is racist, but it doesn't mean they wouldn't treat a non Asian fairly in a business matter.

I purposely left the inflammatory part of the definition out because I believe one can subscribe to the top part without being the second.
Anyone who has truly never longed to be another race is, at least on a subconscious level, saying that his race is superior.

I understand your point. The whole point of racism lies in one's behavior towards another race.

That's what I think. I would never hold Ill will against an Asian family because they wanted their son or daughter to marry another Asian as long as their dealings with me were fair. And I'd feel the same way about anyone else who has pride in his own race as long as it didn't cross over into special privileges.
My wife works with a young man from India and we were at a party together once and my wife asked him if he was dating any local girls. He said no, and his family would only allow him to date and marry and Indian girl. Now this view is most certainly racist, but he is a great guy who I now consider a friend and I would never dream of calling him a racist because he is always kind, considerate and open with me.

Not really. Maybe they never just thought about it.
Besides, I don't think you would argue that a man not wanting to be a woman means he thinks men are superior.

Actually, I think that argument could and has been made before.

I don't believe its ever wrong to simply hold a belief, an idea, or an opinion. It could be wrong if you act upon those ideas and negatively impact another person's life though.
I think we enter dangerous territory when we try to police a person's mind.

I can say that never, not for one second, wished I was another race. Being a white male born in the US is awesome

I believe the same way, but unfortunately this way of thinking is usually not voiced for fear of reprisals.

Which is by definition a racist statement, but would you be viewed as a racist by your actions with those of other races?
