I don't get it. What's so special?

What exactly did I just watch? And movie about a fake movie being made inside a real movie?

it's a coming of age story featuring an actor literally coming of age on screen. incredible idea, and by all accounts it was pulled off very well and is a fantastic film.

The movie is a reenactment of what the film maker observed over 12 years? So this guy creeped on a ld growing up?

Yeah, I want to see this.
By all accounts, Linklater is a pretty normal guy. Grew up an athlete, even made some doc on the Texas baseball coach. It is odd to me that he has done some of the best experimental stuff in cinema over the past 20 years.
Before Midnight was my favorite movie last year. I love what he has done with that series. I'm not sure how good this movie will be, but I am definitely interested.

The kid was cast in 2002 and they started filming same year. They wrapped last year, so you see 11 years of the kid's life on camera.

A scripted documentary? Seems kinda lazy and not so groundbreaking.

Lulz at trying to sum it up as that.

Did I see his parents are real actors? Also, did the kid know he was being filmed for a documentary? I feel like this has an American Man: Age Ten feel to it but obviously extended for 12 years

How did people not get this? It's fiction. A coming of age story that they took their time with and shot over the span of time that the main character actually ages. Linklater is doing unbelievable shite. Between Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly, and the Before films, he may be the most ambitious conceptual director alive. Plus he'll always have greatness with Dazed and Confused.

Yea did someone just ask if the kid knew he was being filmed?
No they just followed him around with creepy cameramen for 12 years.
