I know a guy who was a fringe major leaguer, went up and down from AAA to the majors a bunch, had a few decent years in the bigs, was basically Derek Lee's back up in Chicago.
He gets paid a frick load in Japan, I dk how well he does, but they're only allowed a certain number of foreign players so they get paid more.

Are you thinking of Matt Murton? He went over there and was pretty successful.

Micha Hauffpauir? or however you spell it.

I think the difference is the minors is littered with guys who are hopefull that can make it to major league roster along with very young raw kids. The MLB players that go over have usually topped out and are the dreaded AAAA players. Or at least that's my guess.

No idea about the domestic talent.

-Played 3 yrs in MLB, hit .324/.400/534 in 33g in 2008. '09 played 105 with 235 AB and hit 10 HRs. 2010 24g hit .173.
-Was in AAA for at least 7 yrs (career .294/.356/.510 guy in AAA)
-Played 3 yrs in Japan, 2011-2013. Career .225/.298/.384 hitter.
