So I'm not the only one with this concern. I honestly think that this area will be an absolute clusterfrick when people start showing up and these projects start to kick off in the next year or so.

If what you said were true, then I think we're pretty much screwed as far as improving the infrastructure to handle the madness. It's not just Lake Charles and the 2 interstates. It's everything in between. The 2 lane highly traveled roads with no turning lanes THROUGHOUT this area. Ruth St. and Ryan St. are both going to be absolutely unbearable. Nelson Road is bad NOW. Hopefully, the Prien Exit will help with that, but there's no reason for me to believe that it will. That's mainly for casino traffic.

Sounds to me the planners are dragging their feet already and have really no answer for any of the future plans or problems. About par for the course when it comes to this area's govt. seats.

No worries, buddy. It's all under control. I was assured by city council it will go as smooth as the downtown development has gone.

A few thoughts...

Most people in this thread know how the industrial construction business works, so forgive me if my comments are already known.

Infrastructure needs to be in place BEFORE huge numbers of craft swarm Lake Charles and the surrounding areas. I dont know much about LC roads and highways, but to accomodate the number of craft, this will be a huge undertaking. If expanding/upgrading roads have not started, they are already about 1-2 years too late.

I do not beleive the letter was written my a Union member, reason being it doesnt matter if is non-union or union craft, its still a ton of workers in the area and that is what the letter was bitching about. The author also has no idea what goes into planning projects of this magnitude and the support needed for it.

As far as hiring a majority of foreign workers, I do not beleive this to be true. For the folks that think these construction jobs can be had by anyone, not the case. You have to have some useful trade that you can perform and be qualified. Theyre not hiring just anyone off the streets. If you are foreign, you will have to provide a social security card or work visa if youre going to be hired by a major company.

Most industrial settings have fairly strict drug testing(randoms, alcohol , hair follicle). Yes there are some craft that will frick this up and give other craft a bad rep, but the majority are not drug users.

SFP, you are correct as far as LC being a gold mine if you were to open a business. Ice machines/delivery will be an absolute given. Roach coaches make a killing. Guys are lined up at them in the morning and lunch.. My last job, this van that sold high vis "swag" set up across the street. We had roughly 2000 craft on the job and I betcha 50 - 75% bought shirts from them.

I currently work in Baytown and the Houston area will also see a number of huge projects getting underway, not to the magnitude of SW LA though.
