I like how some people act like they have figured out the art of scouting by bullshitting around on the internet.
No shite.
People on here will defend Loomis' draft accuracy, and in the next breath bash Mel Kiper. The shite is hard.
shite Micky Loomis is like 0-10 in drafting LB's over his tenure alone. we arent even talking 1 year. That's like a span of 12 years or so.

Kiper is usually pretty legit when it comes to college players and I admire that he stands by his opinion and gives reasoning. No one is perfect.
Where I question him is when it comes to the NFL. I have no issue with him mocking a DE/pass rush OLB to us, but his reasoning makes no sense and anyone could see we didn't lack for a pass rush by simply looking at team stats.

I really don't know the behind the doors process, but I have to believe that Loomis only picks the players his coaches push for. I also believe that Payton has the last word on all picks.
Loomis is not a talent evaluator; he is

All very true. These guys have to talk non stop for months...on the record.
Evidence of this as more than 1 or 2 or are you just full of sh!t?

He was a shitty talent scout of a GM years before Payton came along.

No he is not. EVER

No question but that was not your point.

He's a damn accountant. If an owner entrusted him to be a talent scout, that's where the problem lies. The last I looked, Payton's guidance has yielded some pretty ineffective picks at the upper end of the drafts. Like most on here have said, there are very few real "locks" when it comes to the draft.

No he is not. EVER
He knows college(I'll put this here as a disclaimer this time: to a point as far as someone on the outside looking in) but I don't think he knows NFL for jack outside of what people tell him or what players did 5 years ago(like everyone thinking we lost something by cutting Smith ). That includes where players will go and how they will do.
So when I said legit I meant as far as evaluating their college careers and projecting a range for the players' talents.
You may disagree and that's fine.

He leaves the scouting to the scouts and coaches. I'm sure he has a bit of input because he is usually a good judge of character so I'm sure the interview process he is heavily involved in.
But as far as deciding if a guy can play or not, he lets the scouts/coaches do that. And the scouting department is getting better and better so he is doing something right in getting the right people in for the job.
I know YOU expect him to be a do it all guy, but name me 5 good GMs that are both talent scouts and CPAs.
Fact is he has a role and does his role very well, and he has been getting the right people to fill the roles he doesn't do.

I think when I broke it down Brown was by far the worst 1st-3rd rounder we took under Payton, and even he still contributed something.

He thinks we are shortsighted in not wanting/having both.
He has been on the Loomis sucks train since the Haslett years.
No matter how much has changed since then he will not backtrack as that would show some sign of cognitive weakness in his grey drab eyes.
Strange but hey! It is what it is.

But didn't Loomis also bring in Payton and Brees and GW which lead to our first Super Bowl, and Ryan which was by far the best coaching hire last season?
Hasn't our scouting also gotten better over the years and don't we have one of the best rates in finding UDFA gems?
But none of that matters because Loomis isn't a scout?
Doesn't he also pull off moves in FA nobody thought was possible on a consistent basis because he is a fricking cap wizard(and imo by far the best in the biz at manipulating the cap)?

Correct.
See there are other teams that have GM's that do both.
We don't have one.
Thus we are coming up short.
We could have won more if it was all in place.
We are setting our fan sights too short you see.
We need to go get one.
Simple.
He has lots of ideas on who but just won't share.
Very sad.

Right. He fixes his mistakes. And the only reason we had a pulse on defense for years was because we HAD to sign free agents there. Certainly hadn't drafted any worthwhile defenders for years outside of 5-6 guys over more than a decade

I'm laughing at the notion that you think he has never been on the scouting side of things.
He came up through the finance ranks and moved into contract negotiating. From there he has moved on to be a VP of Operations and a GM.
He has NEVER held a title that involved scouting and has zero background in it. He was hired because he knows numbers and rose up through the ranks because he knows them very well, as well as being a VERY shrewd negotiator.
