The Annual QDMA & LSU Deer Field Day will be held Saturday May 3 at LSU's Ildewild Research Station in Clinton. If you have never attended this event, it's a very good way to learn some of the most current information related to deer. This is one of the best opportunities each year to learn from some of the area's top deer experts and researchers. See the information below for everything you need to know about the event. This event will be conducted at the Bob R. Jones-Idlewild Research Station, 2 miles south of Clinton, La. Presentations will cover a variety of topics including discussions on a new genetics trial established specifically to benefit soft mast species beneficial to wildlife. The identification and nutritional value of understory browse plants will also be covered. White-tailed deer aging techniques using tooth wear and replacement along with antler scoring techniques will also be discussed. The program will include the latest techniques for feral hog control including trapping and baiting.

Report on the 2013-14 Deer Season in Louisiana:

Establishing Genetically Superior Soft Mast Species for Wildlife:
Dr. Charles Johnson, Horticulture Specialist, LSU AgCenter.

The Identification and Nutritional Value of Understory Browse Species:
Mr. Scott Durham and Dr. Don Reed, Wildlife Specialist, LSU AgCenter. .

Aging techniques for White-tailed Deer Using Tooth Wear and Replacement:
Mr. Vic Blanchard, Forester / Wildlife Biologist A. Wilbert Sons, LLC. Mr. Tony Vidrine, Wildlife Biologist, La. Dept. Wildlife and Fisheries, Mr. David Moreland, Outdoor Roots.

What’s New and What’s on the Horizon for Controlling Feral Hogs and other Nuisance Quadrupeds?
Dr. Glenn Gentry, Reproductive Physiologist, LSU AgCenter, Dr. Dearl Sanders, Ms. Kay Shaw, Cell-Gate Wireless Traps.

Lunch will be provided as part of registration fees at the conclusion of the program.

REGISTRATION

The basic pre-registration fee is $30 if paid by April 25, 2014. Registration fees paid after this time will be $40. In addition to lunch; coffee, water and soft drinks will be provided.
