Where we are staying depends on the course we play. I was thinking something along the rail though. My buddy wants to play the pga course but I was wanting some feedback on it. We were also looking at wildcat.
I do appreciate the replys

Last time I played Tour 18 is was getting run down. Greg Norman's course out in Katy is a place I have in mind.

I would say Redstone. Right up 59 from downtown and a really nice but challenging course.

I lived in Houston for years and have played most all of the courses public and private. My favorites, in no particular order...
1. Wildcat (both courses fun, on southside)
2. Black Horse (northwest)
3. Redstone (north)
4. Eagle Pointe (great course on east side)
5. Woodforest at Fish Creek (best greens in town)
(north Houston)
6. The Wilderness (south on 288 in Lake Jackson)
Any of the above will be a great experience for you guys. Most expensive is Redstone but much lower than your budget)
I am a 4 handicap. Avoid Tour 18. It's rarely in great shape.

Wildcat is OK if you don't care about a 5+ hour round. Same with Memorial Park, which is a great muni track in the middle of the city.
I'd check out Blackhorse or Meadowbrook Farms. Both are in the 'burbs but these are two of the best daily fee courses in town.
Or, find a well-connected friend to invite you out to River Oaks, Houston, Lakeside, Lochinvar, or Royal Oaks which I think covers the nice private clubs in town.

That's gold man.
Wildcat is a name that keeps popping up with proximity etc. I'm not a fan of rotting in the fairway though. I'll study them all. Thanks.

Can I join? I may be able to get us on The Club of Houston.

From Lake Charles and this post is right on the mark, my favorite is # 5 Woodforest at Fish Creek but way north if you want to drive. Eagle Pointe is a great stop on the way from Baton Rouge 30 minutes or so East of Downtown Houston.
All six are fun and great choices and accessible

Redstone is Club of Houston isn't it?

Living in Pearland for years I played Wildcat over 100 times and I have never taken 5hrs to play a round out there. It is a very popular course and very fun, so there will be traffic. Get out there around 9a or 3p on weekends and you are good...during the week it's usually wide open.
Of the ones I listed, you would have more fun here as you can play the Lakes in the morning and go eat lunch in the clubhouse, then play the Highlands in the afternoon.

Memorial park is a great course in the middle of the city. Don't let the fact that it's a muni bum you out. Condition can be suspect at times. It's also pretty challenging from the back tees. Wildcat highlands course is fun as well. I honestly don't know any accessible courses in Houston that come close to $225

Try somewhere in The Woodlands.

Look me up two weeks prior to the game. I'm a member of Houstonian Golf and Country Club. I can get you on there or at Golf Club of Houston. The tournament course will probably be in crappy shape as it usually is during the summer. It normally is good November through June. I can also get you on at Carlton Woods up in the Woodlands.
