This kindof throws your 'big buck theory' out of the window since a 6-8 year old deer is going to have the same reproductive capacity as a 2 year old because it is going to get beaten out by younger, stronger animals.
I'm not a naturalist, but I'd have a tough time killing something that was around at the turn of the century or on D-day.
