Due to having recently lost a rod and reel out the bed of my truck, I'll be buying a new reel. I already got the rod but now it's time for a reel to go on it. I've narrowed it down to an okuma Citrix. There's a 273v model and a 254v model. Only about $10 difference in price. The 273 has 7.3:1 gears and the 254v has 5.4:1 gears. My question- what's the difference?

It has to do with the spool size and bearing size. I don't fully understand myself but I know the 7.3:1 gets about 30 inches per revolution of the handle and the 5.4:1 is less per rev.

Higher the gear ratio the faster the line retrieve, but you lose some pulling power.

unless you're strictly fishing cranks or slowrolling spinnerbaits with it, get the 7.3

The 5.4 is slow retrieve with power , these are good for throwing big deep crank baits and that is about all. 7.3 is super fast good for Plastics and jigs. All around would be 6.3.
Why the Okuma? Just curious.
