Man, I was pulling for Jimmie back when he still had his rookie stripes in '02 Actually have a die cast of that car at my parent's house (if my little brothers haven't destroyed it by now )
I knew him doing well would reflect well on his co-owner, JG
Didn't realize just how damn good Johnson was until later, of course, but I'm a long time fan of his, as well

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that when the started the 48 team they took all the 24 cars/etc to start the 48 operation and built all new cars etc. for the 24. Did I just imagining this and I really just have irrational dislike of JJ?

I honestly don't remember exactly, but that wouldn't surprise me. HMS was pushing hard for JJ to get off to a good start to his career, and Jeff was very invested in that as well, obviously. Why not give the rook some proven winning equipment and give your flagship team the state of the art new shite?
Maybe it's just me, but that would actually make a ton of sense from an organizational perspective. I'll have to do my research on that point, though.
