For the longest time I have been particularly unimpressed with BPS fishing lure selection. Imo, Academy beats the brakes off of them for variety of lures/bait available.

BPS has been pushing more and more of their merchandise for the past 3+ years. Not to mention half the store is draped in Duck Commander/Duck Dynasty shite and shoves it down your throat the moment you walk through the door.

And sorry dude hounding me CONTINUOUSLY to sign up for time share at Big Cedar.

Customer service seems to almost nonexistent except for the gun counter at almost every store I have been at for the past 2+ years.

The Bass Pro beef jerky made by Uncle Buck is the same as Uncle Bucks beef jerky right next to it except it is marked down two dollars.

I realize there is nothing they can do about Tue ammo shortage so I'm not even gonna go there... oh, wait..

As for Cabela's... they are right behind them if not already there.

No!!1 I don't want to sign up for your credit card, I already have one.. and don't you give me that,"yeah right" look you fat skank when I say I already have one because I am dirty and splattered with mud and god knows what else.. I do have one! And its a black card!!1 you know how much money I've dropped in here! Huh?

I remember when cabela's and BPS use to give out free popcorn.. ahhh, those were the days, it use to feel like an adventure rather than a continuous advertisement for Tony Stewart's fat arse.

I'm not mad, just mildly perturbbed.

What y'all think?

I'm not sure what I think about your rant. But, as far as the stores, I think Academy is the walmart of outdoor stores, and I think most of the others are overpriced.

I don't know which academy you go to, but in BR I only have 2 choices for offshore gear, BPS and Superior. I have to agree that they are starting to put more of their items on the shelves that I don't care for, hooks and jigheads in particular.

I remember when BPS was 99% mail order. I'd get my annual catalog and it was like when I was 6 and Sears sent out the Xmas toy catalog. And the prices used to be super cheap compared to any sporting goods store. I really wish we still had real sporting goods stores, where empoyees knew what they were selling. Now all we have are "self-serve" stores. They're one step above Walmart, if you ask me.

I wish my Academy had the selection of BPS. Academy is not bad for lures, but their boat accessories, rods, reels, offshore tackle, etc. are all lacking. Much more of a selcetion at BPS and Cabela's. Not that any of them are great deals, it's just nice not to have to order out of a catalog.

I don't think so, I think there are gimmicky aspects of all stores.

Yes, I hate the place. They never have anything in stock but their bullshite lures.

I am not a fan of Bass Pro simply because of its location. Now, Cabelas, isn't that much of a pain to get to from South BR or NOLA so I go there sometimes. Cabelas has been slowly growing its reloading section, if they add a few more items I would appreciate picking up something with out a hazmat fee if the price is right.

To me, Brass Pro was always the trashier version of Cabelas.

Cabelas in Gonzales is a joke. It literally looks like a Wal Mart from the inside. I went to BPS the other day on my way to Covington to get two things...a Rouge and a Devil's Horse. I wanted the chrome/blue Rouge and the chrome/orange Devil's Horse. They didn't have either. No problem. I can find something else to buy. Netbait has this new bait called paca punch that's a little thick bodied flipping craw...so figured I'd get some of those. They didn't have any colors of those either.

All the while, there are four entire aisles full of BPS baits. So I went upstairs bummed but decided to see if there was anything on sale in the hunting section. Nothing but Duck Dynasty cups, hats, and videos. So I went down the stairs to leave, and of course the girl asks me if I've signed up for a cruise/timeshare whatever she wanted.

This is the story of every one of my trips to BPS. I feel your pain.

I love their time share info. Am going sometime in August to Branson for one third of what I would have paid had I not listened to them. I like Bass Pro and their restaurant has some great food.

If I go to Academy with a list of 10 things, they'll only have 5 of them so I end up having to go to BP anyway. I'm not talking about real technique specific things either, I'm talking about things like black neon baby brush hogs, black 1/4 oz. strike king tungsten weights, 15 and 20 lb. Seaguar flouro. These were all things I needed to restock my boat with that they didn't gave last week. Happens everyone I go.

I think it mostly depends on the stores location as to how good it is.

Please, point me in the direction of the Academy you visit. Because IMO their bait selection usually sucks.
Cabelas < Academy < BPS < pretty much any tackle store
in terms of bait selection
