I wouldn't say Texas at all, most people don't give a crap about Texas.
Florida gets a lot of hate for the stupidity that goes on down there, but people love the tourist stuff.
California is the same way.
No one really wants to go to the flyover states.
I wouldn't say there was one really universally hated state.

There's not. But if you were to poll "which state do you have the least opinion of", California and Texas would be 1 and 2 in either order.
New York would be up there too, just because people dislike the city itself for some reason and associate the whole state with it (like some might dislike the whole state of louisiana because of New Orleans)
