The Saints shifted some money around for Lewis to give the team $1.2 million in cap savings in 2014 and $1 million in savings for 2015. The team turned $2.1 million into bonus money in 2014 to spread the cap hit.

He won't be the only one. I think they just want some breathing room.

Do it, Loomis. Find us some money!

I guess this will help get them a center--or maybe a CB or WR.

Smart restructure. He's still young and has 4 years left on his deal which was already a very modest one anyway.
Loomis gonna Loomis. Must be another move coming. Goodwin?

Yeah he made too much sense to restructure I would have been surprised if he wasn't.
It'll be interesting to see if the do anyone else and who out of Brees, Evans, Grubbs, Colston, and Lofton.
I think we still wait on Brees or at the max only do a slight restructure to get just enough money to make a transaction.
I think Evans is sticking around so it'll likely be him, but that would make the 3rd year in a row for him.

Just saw PT's new deals saves us 1.4 mil in cap space.
Posted on 3/20/14 at 12:13 pm to Patrick O Rly
just saw that too. so we are probably like 2 mil under now right?
eta: we are all thinking this could be for a vet C or CB, but what if this is for a long term Graham deal?

There are going to be a few of these along the way in the coming month or two before the draft. Saints need to make room to sign their picks. Once they sign Jimmy, they may make some room as well by lowering his initial cap hit by a couple of million compared to the Tag hit.
For example, if they want, they could save about $1.6 M this year, by converting $2.4 M of Colston's base salary to a signing bonus. This would add $1.6M to his dead money in 2016 and 2017 though.
Another example would be to drop Moorestead's base salary to the Vet minimum and convert the rest into a signing bonus over the next 4 years. This would save a little over a $1M and only add $360k to each of the following 3 seasons.

quote:Doubtful. Loomis almost always does a low first year and it may even be lower than his current $7m hold.
but what if this is for a long term Graham deal?
With PT saving that much, we are likely $2-3m under.
