Demand for this is still massively higher than for VR
Every blog post I've read or interview I've watched of people who've tried the Oculus Rift has been glowing. They've nearly all said it's amazing, unlike 3D, which most were lukewarm on at best.
Why are you so negative about this? What aspects of it have you unconvinced? I'm asking because I think VR is going to be extremely big over the next couple of years with applications that extend beyond traditional gaming and when someone like John Carmack is clearly excited, it makes me optimistic.

The video I saw of someone wearing an oculus rift while on one of those treadmills where you could walk around appeals to me. That is cool and immersive to me.
The part that doesn't appeal to me is just sitting in chair with this thing on my head just so I can look in different directions. It just seems like something that would get old very quick.
The illumaroom thing Microsoft showed off a couple of years ago appeals to me much more and I think would to the general public even more.
