That's ridiculous.
1. No one has bombed our country and taken out half the naval fleet.
No one had done that in the 1930s either.

Nope. This really is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. This kind of shite has been happening for hundreds of years and we don't really need to be getting involved other than providing some $$$ to Ukraine and slapping Russia's hands with sanctions.
Said every American in 1938 when Germany invaded the Sudetenland and assured the world it was only to repatriate Germans, and not to invade Czechoslovakia. Said every American when they did invade the whole of Czechoslovakia and absorb Austria through threat to their governing body or else.
Said every American in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland.
Said many other Americans in 1940 when Germany invades Norway, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, and Romania. When Italy invades North Africa, and Greece, and Russia invades Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
Said many Americans in 1940 when Germany bombs London in preparation for invasion.
Said many Americans in 1941 when Germans attack our shipping and convoys.

No chance. Rock-n-roll is dead.
Economic sanctions are the new hop-hop.

Putin definitely wants the old USSR restored.
The former KGB agent longs for the good old days of past glories like the former corporal did in Germany's lost cause for glory.
He's also testing the waters to see how far he can go, and right now, he sees Neville Chamberlain in the United States saying Victory in our time.
Humans repeating the same shite over and over, and never really learning anything from their past mistakes.

We're not going to war with Russia over Crimea or Ukraine.
I agree with you. But the problem is that after Putin is done in the south, his gaze will probably turn to Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. We will have already shown him there's no real price he'll pay for expanding his growing empire so it's very possible he will make a move in the Baltic. That's what will lead to war.

I'm sure Mr. Putin can find some peoples in Finland he would be interested in repatriating as well.

Of course Putin wants to reunify... it means more power. And right now, noone is willing and/or capable of intervening.
The US has gotten comfortable taking on over-matched opponents. It's been a while since we had to deal with a bully our own size.

No. In fact with oil shale and natural gas from fracking in the U.S. we have never been in a better position to negate Russia's only economic advantage, oil.

Sure didn't, or when they took Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
All is forgotten when they were attacked by their German competitors, and become our allies.

Outside of nuclear capabilities which they can compete (and I acknowledge is the overriding factor which makes them a formidable opponent), Russia is far from a bully our own size. We outstrip them in every other area. The only risk Russia presents is that the gap is closer than with the other military forces we have faced, and their tactical nuclear warhead arsenal makes them very dangerous.
The proof is in the pudding. Russia fears our missile defense program because if we negate their strategic nuclear arm threat, they have no meaningful check on US military presence and power.

And we have another problem in downsizing our military so we can't do much but huff and puff anyway.
Like I said. We keep washing and repeating the same mistakes and expecting a different result.

those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Don't think for one second that Putin hasn't looked at this country, assessed the situation and picked his opportunity to recapture the lost Soviet glory. Communists NEVER DIE. They are just renamed as something less offensive, but at the heart lies the same beast. Make no mistake about that, ever.

The same people who are saying that the election in Crimea to join the Russians isn't fair/legal are the same dipshits that are saying that the first elections in US occupied Iraq and Afghanistan were momentous achievements.

I think Putin is more nationalist than he is communist. The real communist is in our white house.

If you think a cost strapped, budget minded military that is exhausting resources in the Middle East can handle full blown war with Russia, you're crazy. It would have to be a coalition of nations joining the fight.

Kinda liked having an opponent that's close to our equal. It'll spur nationalism and maybe a little unity in the US.
