Is anyone arguing that pre-nuptial agreements are not a practical device to introduce into a marriage? I believe that was my original premise, not specifically the 50% number. A central component of marriage is the merging of assets.

It's just discussing how necessary it is to do. It'd be more important if the rate really was that high. Realistically, it also depends on the assets brought in (i.e., difference in incomes).

If you go into a marriage already thinking it might end in divorce, you're likely in trouble. Not saying it isn't a good idea, but at time it's like buying flood insurance when you're convinced you're on high ground.
