If there's any chance you'd be willing to give me a pointer or two about that place, I would surely appreciate it! I'm bringing my wife and daughter with me tomorrow and I'd surely like to make an impression ;-).

I'm gonna bring 20 pillow traps, half dozen set nets, chicken necks and beef melt for bait.

You can email me if you don't want to post it here... Breauxcm@yahoo.com.

Can we get an update on how you did?

I would like to bring some kids. I know there is a walk involved, but what about snakes?

Plenty of snakes, so watch for them. before the bridge was out we were over there all the time. Some of the biggest cottonmouths I've seen have been back there. The bright side is there are plenty of crawfish when the water is right and they're super easy to catch. Great time for kids

With the weather, the walk isn't too bad. More kiddos means more hands to haul gear .

Not too good, set all 20 traps, the first 10 brought in nada. You read that right, not one stinking bug. After that, I prolly caught 30 crawfish. All but about 6 would fall right through my trap if it weren't for the fact that they we're latched on to the bait and the bait wouldn't fit through the holes. They we're that small. Bought my kids a couple of the small dip nets. All the crawfish we fought wouldn't have filled up one of them.

To add to it, blew a tire on my trailer on the downside of the I-10 Mississippi River bridge, and live in walker. Just didn't close out the day good either. But, there's always a bright spot, got to spend time with my kids, they still have fun!

When did you go? Give it another shot a little later. Trust me. It gets really easy out there when it's good.

Either way,

I set 5 traps at a time in prolly 8 different places, each soak was well over 1.5 hours. It's only my second time out there, so I'm not sure how to describe where I set them at. I can say when you get to the split by the trailer, I set traps in each direction. I had chest waiters, so I did some walking

I spent most of the time to the left by the ponds way in the back by the lookout platform, tried in all directions.

Whoa, nets or traps?

If nets and beef melt, that is way too long man.

Thanks child, I agree, gonna be a few more weeks before I expect to get enough to eat.

I have a polaris ranger and chest waiters, so I have the right gear, just don't have the magic yet.

I used traps RATeam. I used some traps with beef melt, and some with chicken necks. To my surprise, the chicken produced Better. Each set of 5, I put 3 with melt, and 2 with chicken

Good deal. When the water is like it is now, I've had better luck in the ditches right where the main road dumps into south farm. That's in the past though and I haven't fished it this year yet.

Like someone said earlier, if you're just using melt, I would start running your nets as soon as you're done setting. I normally don't set more than 20-24 just because of the hassle and I'll start running them as soon as I set the last one most of the time.

I'm no pro though. Just messed up enough to learn a thing here and there haha.

Oh, ok, that makes a lot more sense. Thought you had mentioned using nets, my bad.

We hit up Honey Island last year, but really weren't familiar with the area and swung and missed a while before we found any bugs. Going to try to hit up Sherburne this year if we can get a group to commit to it. Going to let you guys scout it out for awhile first though
