quote:What if the EBR schools are doing the same thing and still can't get a decent score.
They can call it whatever they want, it's a sham.
That's truly a scary thought.

I believe its referred to as "Teaching to the Test".
I agree that there is too much of this going on, but how else do you create a evaluation standard that can be used across all schools?
That debate will last forever.

Ok. Try this one on. 80% of EBR schools are C-rated or below. Your turn to make a statement. Explain why this is acceptable versus the alternatives in Zachary, Livingston, or Ascension. Still waiting on you to answer this one........
I would bet 10-15 yrs from now when Zachary is full grown, that precious letter grade will be around a C average
Zachary's been growing for quite a while now and has constantly been at the top of the list for school districts in the state since it got its ISD in the early 2000s.
That's about 14 years so far and the performance has kept up the entire time.

What? It happens. I have a fast kid. I grew up in ebr and attended McKinley. I wish my son had the opportunity to learn at the pace I did as a child.

At least a nature center will teach the kids something rather than shoving a xbox in your face and hounding you to sign up for a credit card.
The kids (and their parents) still have to go to the nature center. Plus, you can cheaply pack up and go camping in real nature.

There's only two things that make good sense in any of this. Either invest in your city, or leave the state and region for good. Both I can find the reasoning behind, but creating temporary refugee camps to move out to, or dividing the spoils, and thinking you're going to stand and fight for it when we've never demonstrated our willingness to do that for a city on a major artery like the Mississippi River, a 300 year old city with an actual downtown, as small as it may be, or even The areas surrounding our beloved LSU for that matter is a ridiculous expectation.
If I for one minute thought that the people of St. George would stand and fight and invest in their own place where they live, I might entertain the concept of St. George, but I know good and damn well they won't because they never have shown the willingness to do so, and there's nothing of significance to fight for anyway that a new Walmart or shopping mall build down the interstate won't give them just the same, especially when it's newer and shinier. If you can't find the reasoning or justification in fighting for the above assets, then what makes anyone think that people would fight for an area that couldn't even muster enough of a fight to save a damn golf course from being built upon?
Nobody will fight. They will cave quickly, just like they always do.
Reminds me of Monty Python's Holy Grail, and the killer rabbit... "Run away, run away."

People are willing to invest in the city. They just don't want to keep giving a blank check to the same assholes who couldn't pour piss out of a boot with instructions printed on the heel, especially when they see neighboring parishes and ISDs booming.
Unless the EBRPSB tosses out some of the entrenched powers within that system, nothing will change for the better.

Thank you for proving my point again.

All excellent points.
But if you don't attempt to give them an incentive to stay, there is absolutely no hope of getting them to invest.
It's not jobs, or roads, or walmart that convinces them to stay or go.
It's the availability of a quality, affordable education for their kids.
You haven't seen anyone fight for BR b/c they haven't had a good public education available.
You can see what the schools have done for Zachary. What makes you believe it won't work on the South side like it did in the North?

This is the third incorrect statement you've made. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're just ignorant and not a liar.

I can't tell if you are the biggest Troll on the board, or you honestly believe that the School system in BR is credible?

I'm talking about the people who voted for more property taxes for public schools on the promise of "things will improve".
They threw a shitload of money at the problem and things have shown marginal improvement at best.

Typo bro (it's cold in this room and my pinky doesn't respond. Plus, I type so fast and correctly that I rarely go back and spell check.)....
are you really stooping this low?
Doesn't my expansive vocabulary impress you enough to concede small infractions?
Or are you grabbing for anything that will allow you to discredit me in an effort to avoid addressing the real issue?
.... Still waiting for you to explain why a school system where 80% of the schools are C-rated are below are an acceptable alternative to Zachary, Livingston, etc.
I imagine you'll never get around to it because it's a fundamental issue that you cannot defend.

I'm contemplating moving to EBR again BECAUSE of the schools. Imagine that
