Let me ask a question here.

In this day and age I don't see someone taking over a plane and 239 people do nothing. I think that someone would attempt to use a cell phone or get something out to someone on the ground.

Was their technology to block all communication? Perhaps

I am leaning towards the decompression theory that they all went to sleep and the plane went on autopilot. The decompression damaged the transponder and that is why no signal.

Am I off base?

Nope it has to done manually and auto-pilot wouldn't have made that turn back to the west. This was deliberate by someone

Yes. You are. The transponder HAS to be shut off manually. And not only was the transponder shut off, the communications system was likewise shut off - both done separately over a span of minutes.
