Sounds like someone chose the wrong career path.

Engineers in the O&G industry along the I-10 corridor from Houston to New Orleans definitely make that much.

..and it isn't via simple promotions, it's from the demand. You work at one place for 4 years and move onto another company for a 20%+ raise. You do it 2-3 times along with yearly 4-5% raises, at worst, and you go from $30/hr out of school to $65+/hr in less than 12 years.
