Did not read this thread, but I feel like there was A LOT of wasted time in this show. They know going in it's only going to be 8 episodes, why not take advantage of it?
The show drew a lot of people in with the idea that there was going to be depth, but in the end everything was pretty predictable.
I don't think Marty or Rust were dynamic enough characters on their own to merit wasting so much time on their "development."
Jmo of course.

Just finished the finale on hbogo
What a phenomenal show. Loved every second of it. Every character and event was very well done. I'll be rewatching this quite a few times.
I wish we could watch a season just about Rusts undercover work. The evolution of him and his mind from good family man father and husband to deep narc undercover badass to the borderline insane strung out fricked up Rust we met would be one hell of a show.

HAHA. I called this shite from Episode 1.
The killer doesn't matter, the symbols don't matter, the daughter doesn't matter. They are all just driving details in a CHARACTER STUDY.
The show is about Marty and Rust, not a serial killer. Its in the god danged title, True Detectives.
Oh, and I'm glad they left it open for them two to possibly return.

Just finished watching the finale. I thought it was amazing and fricking great. Question: What did Rust say at the end after he told Marty he had it wrong about the sky thing? Sounds like he said: It wasn't always dark; the lights just went out.

Great great series. If I had the time I'd go through and down vote every SFP post connected with True Detective.

Was no one else bothered by how ridiculous the fishing scene was?
A sportfisher in the middle of the damn marsh half arse casting out lines like they were waiting for brim under a cork. Who would do this- no one. It's like the biker gang in cop outfits for the stash house raid. Overall writing was incredible but now and then would absolutely drop the ball on being realistic. If they were so detail oriented about re creating crime scenes, clothing styles appropriate for mid 90s etc they should have not overlooked some of these details- it was distracting for me.
