It's more expensive in Louisiana than that. I agree that it's borderline criminal for them to make you pay money to exercise a constitutional right.

What do you think of this article, Bapple?

I don't necessarily support the viewpoint. Just found it while researching Mississippi CCP fees.

No offense to anybody who has posted, but every time I think I can't be surprised by unsophisticated, silly high-drama threads on this board -- I seem to run across one like this.

Nobody makes you pay money in Mississippi or in Louisiana to open-carry. You get to exercise that constitutional right for free. But if you want the added convenience of carrying concealed, you pay a fee for that privilege.

You can walk down almost any road in the state (maybe not the interstate highways). If you want the convenience of riding down those roads on a bus or in a car, you pay for that privilege.

If it was about your income level, wouldn't they provide some sort of welfare for poorer people to get permits? Or wouldn't they charge more for people with higher income if it were based on something like taxes? This is where I think the baseline price is messed up.

And every time somebody wants too complain about allegedly discriminatory treatment of various ethnic groups, somebody always seems to play the race card.

If you want "poor people" to be able to pack, why don't we just buy guns for them. The government already buys phones, food, housing and mass transit for "the disadvantaged." Hell, let buy a few million handguns, a few million AR's and about 500,000 shotguns and just hand 'em out.

That oughta make the bleeding heart liberals all warm and fuzzy, and should create job security for every law enforcement officers all over Mississippi & Louisiana.
