In Tyreke Evans Defense

In the 19 games he played with Ryan Anderson healthy, Tyreke averaged 15.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 5.3 apg while making an UNREAL 63% FGs. He also had 101 FTA (5.3/game) and made 84% of those during that span.
Everybody's giving him shite because he's been poor lately, but is it not clear that this is directly related to Anderson's absence? Ryan gave the dude spacing to be a master slasher, which he was phenomenal at in their short time together (Team went 12-10 during Anderson's stretch, Tyreke missed 3 games, and w/o AD for 7). It's clear that when RA plays, Tyreke's offensive game blossomed. Now without him it's gone haywire.
There is a gripe to be made, because he's not stepping up to the plate right now, but when the spacing's not there, it's clear he's a one-dimensional player. Hate him for that if you get your rocks off to being a nega-pel. But he's a good player and I'm certain the aforementioned stats are the reason Dell was willing to pay a premium for him. Tyreke was meant to play and be successful in a lineup w/ Holiday-Gordon-Davis-Anderson, not Rivers-Morrow-Aminu-Ajinca.
Just one man's opinion...

So we're paying a guy 11mil to only be effective with a certain player.....
Posted on 2/27/14 at 7:48 pm to NOLAbaby
There's no spacing in general right now
How the hell is he going to be able to get space for a J if we have Steam/AFA(who both have offense whatsoever) The D won't have to worry about defending them
People expecting him to have success when we have virtually no one to take defenders off?
It's foolish thinking

You're missing the point entirely
We have virtually no one to create space(other than morrow/babbit and maybe rivers)
No space=Bad shots for everyone

This
And as good as our offense was with that lineup, our defense was just as bad, according to AD

this doesn't explain Tyreke's inability to make a layup

I see Tyreke as Lance Stephenson if you're a good team he puts you over the edge and if you're a bad team he's worthless

Thing is with this awful team we've been putting out lately
Roberts
EG
AFA
AD?
Steamshit
Who can succeed? Roberts/AFA/Steam are awful and shouldn't be anymore than end of bench guys.
EG is meh
AD is great but he's banged up right now.
Please answer me how anyone(not just reke) can succeed when 3/5 of your starters are end of bench/D league guys?

No . . . I would say in a lineup with shooters. It was a risky signing. If no injuries and the stars align, he's (arguably) worth the money on this team. Unfortunately, that didn't work out.

I posted this a few days ago:
...he missed the 3 games, and I think he only played 12 minutes in the 4th game that he got hurt in, so I took it out.
I did not come to this conclusion though
quote:
In Tyreke's 18 healthy games played with Ryan Anderson (more than 20 MPG), he averaged:
16.1 PPG (44.8 FG%)
6.0 RPG
5.5 APG
1.7 SPG
28.6 MPG
The team was 11-7 during that span with big wins over the Grizzlies and Trail Blazers.

Can we get a sticky for Evans threads and keep all of this in one place? This shite is getting old
Here is some Evans knowledge:
Tyreke Evans has always been inconsistent and an odd fit. He played 3 different positions in Sacramento. He had maddening bouts of play mixed with dazzling displays. The Kings were rumored to only be offering ~$8M/year last summer.
Evans is normally ~60% at the rim. This season he is below 50%.
Evans nornally takes about 50% of his shots at the rim. This season he is taking close to 65%.
Evans is putting up his highest REB% and AST% ever.
Lineups with Evans and no stretch big are worse than those with one.
Lineups with Anthony Davis and no stretch big are worse than those with one too.
Evans rolled his ankle in the preseason. He has reinjured it at least twice since then.
Is it so hard to figure out that:
1. Evans is a wildly unique, fantastic, and frustrating player.
2. The Pelicans overpaid to get him, adding his odd talents to a crowded backcourt over more traditional players. That doesn't mean it can't work, but it was not the “safe" play
3. He is having a down year. Part injury, part lineup choices/scheme. But he didn't just forget how to make a layup over the summer.
Let's just take a deep breath on Evans for a while.

I agree with your post. We have a tendency to freak out and rag on individual players when, in fact, they're all in a fricked up situation. It's an unorthodox roster that requires they that stay relatively healthy and a coach who knows how to use them. We seem to have struck out on both.

I still see the long term plan as:
Jrue
Evans/Rivers
???
AD/Ryno
???
I think he would be much better in that role, IMO.

Among non-big men, Tyreke Evans ranks 5th in offensive rebounding positioning ability according to this analysis. #SSAC14
Tyreke getting a mention at SSAC, and not for his bad shooting
