Your best of the worst Oscar slights/oversights

What are some of the most glaring examples of either films or actors that either did not get nominated or did and were not awarded.
My top of the list is the year they overlooked Russell Crowe in Beautiful Mind. They gave it to Washington for Training Day. Don't get me wrong, I am huge Denzel fan but they gave it to him as payback for the previous oversights and I do not think they wanted to award Crowe a second Oscar. His role as Prof Nash was incredible.

TKAM is better than LoA in every conceivable way.

Are you a student of film? We are talking the 1962 Oscars here...

Except Crowe got his for Gladiator because of the Insider oversight. His performance in Gladiator was...not worthy. Not even close.

The Color Purple going 0-11.
It was also a crime that Danny Glover and Steven Spielberg were not even nominated.

Can't have an Oscar worst thread without sticking in Crash as the most PC contrived pile of crap in Oscar history.

This one has become so overrated now that it's underrated.
I watched SiL recently to see, and it holds up much better than SPR. Honestly. It's a great film about the creative process. It brings a unique perspective, it's a ton of fun, while being a farce, a meta-commentary, and a fine pseudo-historical piece.
Outside of the first 15 minutes, SPR does absolutely nothing new. But a movie is more than an opening.
I think some just can't separate film quality from content. Of course to some people war, and specifically that day, will trump anything else, no matter the quality. But SiL is just a better film overall, made a lot more sense to the Academy, and I think it will be something like The Third Man, which doesn't get respect until 30-40 years later.

For all the bitching and moaning about "liberal, PC, left-wing, communist" agendas in a lot of movies, I have been waiting for years for a "conservative, moral, family values, Jesus loving, 'Murica" based movie to
A.) be made
and
B.) make major box office
and/or
C.) be critically acclaimed
Don't give me any of that Hollywood conspiracy or no money garbage. The Koch Brothers spend billions on conservative issues and the movie could be made in red Louisiana with the many conservative actors we all know about.

Well, at the base, It's called Forrest Gump. You're welcome.
But,

Is completely reductive and inaccurate of conservative values.
And Crash sucked. it sucked as a film. It sucked as an experience. It sucked as a script.
And that had little to do with it's internal politics. But yeah, those sucked too.

Quit waiting and accept Juno, a pro-life, pro-family film.

6th highest grossing movie in history with inflation considered. It's $65.5 million in 1956 is equal to just over $1 billion in today's dollars.

Crowe had just won Best Actor the year before and was also in some trouble over fighting or something.

I don't necessarily disagree. I found it to be a very manipulative film.
But 99% of the film's critics on this forum denigrate the film because of the politics, not because it was not a great film.
