When I was a kid, my dad's friend came over to shoot his muzzle loader. We were behind the house in the woods where my dad had a target set up. My dad had to go back up to the house to get something and I stayed there with his friend. Friend had already shot a few times. Friend loaded his gun and shot again. It was VERY loud and he was cursing because it had kicked so hard. He thought he'd accidentally put two loads of powder in it or something..... Until he tried to load the gun again and his ramrod was nowhere to be found. We never even found a piece of it.

I know a guy who did the same thing. It was a brass ramrod he had made, after his wooden one broke. He found his stuck in a tree.
