I've saved up a little dough and plan on driving up to the CMP in Anniston to buy a Garand in the next few months. I'll probably get one of their service grade rifles if they still have them. This will be my first non-bolt action milsurp, so I wanted to see if y'all had any tips or advice on what to look for as far as far as evaluating the condition of one of these bad boys.

Use their muzzle and throat gauges to pick out a nice shooter that measures less than 1.5 or so. The fellows who work there will help with any questions. I bought several and then started to get pickier to get nice wood, low number serial number, and something during or near war years.
Good luck!

Never heard of this. You can go and buy a military issue gun and pay based upon condition?
