Clover seems bad this year. 4-5 inches tall already. What do I use to get rid of it chemical wise? I've used the various weed and feeds but doesn't seem to do a thing.

look for a 3way herbicide with dicamba as an ingredient. it'll kill the clover.

something like this

this is the first spring that i own a yard.

clover and weeds have come up in patches all through the dead grass. are there products (like weed'n'feed) that i should throw down are just start trimming and cutting like normal?

see my above post. 2,4 d alone typically won't kill clover, but a mixture with dicamba will do the trick

How is that better than 24d?

it's a mixture with primarily 2,4 d in it
2,4 d on its own won't kill clover

Now. Please watch this LINK. Essentially, don't cut anything larger than your index finger. Any more than that and you start encouraging suckers.

Is it ok to trim my Japanese maple right now? Should I fertilize my lawn?

I don't know much about yards besides mowing.

but you may want to put out a pre emergent in March as it starts to green up.

Get the preemergent out before you start seeing greenup. You wanna inhibit spring/summer weed germination, and if you see a green grass, that means its warm enough for a lot of weeds to germinate.

sorry I meant post emergent as it starts to green up. usually 2-3 weeks after it's green

a pre emergent after it's green won't do much when the weeds are out

What kills button weed that I can get local in BR? Other than round up? Epidemic in my yard last 2 years. I will try to get a pre emergent down this weekend.

All good.

For those asking about weed control, MSU has a good site about general herbicides and weed control. There are a few tables at the bottom that show what grasses are sensitive to what herbicides, as well as pre and post emergent control for weeds.

That's tough to kill, but both oxadiazon and simazine provide decent preemergent control.

if it's already out, get something like what I linked at the top of the page. look for a 3way herbicide with 2,4d, dicamba, and carfentrazone

I just pruned mine this past weekend. I think I cut it back too much.

I'm noticing in my yard, a few cloves and a shitload of that wintergrass shite. No green grass other than the weeds.

So, if i go to the store now, what should i buy? 2, 4-d? Speedzone?

Cna I just 2 4 D the entire thing and be done with it? My grass cutting is going to be rather burdensome this year with the baby.
