No, actually it was still a live ball. That is the reason the runners kept running.

I was under the impression the ball was dead and the runners advance. Compare to a wild throw from the 2B that goes in the dugout. Error on 2B. Runners get a base.

I would imagine once the coach touched it was in fact dead at that point.

You are correct, it was a live ball, while it was rolling to the dugout. As soon as the coach touched it, it is a dead ball. He couldn't pick it up and then throw it back into play. Yes Bregman kept running, but what did you want him to do just walk home.

Did you even play baseball past little league? I understand what you are saying, no the play wasn't immediately ruled dead. But if the coach touched the ball, threw it back to the catcher and they tag Bregman out at home plate, that play would not have stood. The ball was dead as soon as the coach touched it, the call was just delayed because the umpire didn't realized what had happened.
