A family member is looking at one for a birthday gift.
Better deal, IYO.
KF HD (139-169, 8-16 GB)
KF HDX (229-309, 16-64 GB).
I know the HDX has the quad core processer, but I've wondered what ya'll thought of them. Any other recommendations would be nice too. TIA

I have the 7" Kindle Fire HDX and love it. It's my little girl's, but it does the job.

thanks, I'm looking around. The HDX seems really cool, but I'm not sure how much they'll use it.

Wife has the HD and loves it. She doesn't download movies so no need for the extra space. It runs quickly w/ all the apps she uses so not sure you would need a quad core ? I guess if you have multiple apps/movies etc. open at one time or you want to spend the extra $.

Yeah, that's probably what makes it interesting. I think my dad (who I'm getting it for) might use the email settings, some movies, some games. Just wasn't sure about the dual core.

You don't buy a Kindle Fire to be a power user, so that negates the processor speed. Looks like the HDX has a front-facing camera, higher resolution, and longer battery life. I pretty much only use my Fire to read and occasionally browse the web, so I'd go with the cheaper one if I got another one, but YMMV with the additional HDX features.

I just got the 8.9" HDX with 32 gigs of internal memory about a month ago and I love it! I've also been trying, with success so far, to use it for editing some documents and powerpoint presentations that I've been creating so it does work as more than just a tablet for web browsing and movie watching.

I have the HD and it works fine. I only use it for internet and movies on the Amazon Prime. I don't use that many apps so I'm not sure how big of a factor that is in your decision.

appreciate the input from everyone. I think for my dad, I'll look at the HD one, just based on the possible uses.
For myself, I'd go with the HDX based on what i've read.

Either one you choose, you will find the Android experience "lagging"

I have the original Kindle Fire, love it. I'd get the nicest one available, but still stick with a 7".
