your eyes would be opened hearing the plights of these parents in the unincorporated area.
So don't try to preach about "plights." It doesn't work.

Did you read about all the kids who are currently in "gifted programs" who can not fit into BRHS Magnet because BTHS Magnet is already full?
These parents are worried too.

Unfortunately, offsetting Norman Browning is Bodi White and Lionel Rainey.
In your opinion.
Before you read the Advocate Sunday, you had never heard of Norman Browning.
There could be 10 more Norman Brownings that you never heard about, but you try and dismiss their cause because of Bodi White and Lionel Rainey.
Now I know of White, he is an elected official. He helped Central get their city going. He helped get their schools going. Why wouldn't the SG people go to him for advice?

Going back and forth with that type of argument is silly.

And you're wrong. Before the Advocate's article I had heard of Browning because his name has been prominently mentioned many times in the SG news articles. I just didn't know his background. Please stop making such dumb statements and making incorrect assumptions.

What exactly did Lionel Rainey do that is so bad?

ReallY????
White and Rainey are public figures, Beowning wasn't until Sunday.
Now we've also heard from Holden, numerous City Councilman, Daniels, and a lotof other public figures mostly on the opposition side.
People have repeatedly slammed White and Rainey here in an effort to tarnish the SG efforts. Numerous posts have been made to that effect. Previous posts on this board ran down Browning because his brother is active in Central I believe.
I suspect for every Browning there are a bunch of others. It's not a movement orchestrated by politicians, it is a grassroot effort and Browning is proof of that. They went to White for help.

quote:There was a link to a news article in a thread a couple of weeks ago (I think Asgard provided the link) about his underhanded procurement of a state contract, supposedly assisted by Bodi White.
What exactly did Lionel Rainey do that is so bad?
It was a no-bid contract for almost three quarters of a million dollars that was eligible to be a no-bid contract because White got the state to divide the total contract into 3 separate contracts each of which totaled less than $250,000, which is the cut off point for no bid contracts. And the guy has no business experience or history which the contract was awarded to perform.
Google "LR3 Lionel Rainey" and see if you get a link to the article.
That article also points out that Rainey's business partner is the person who cost La taxpayers $150 million from the Champion Insurance collapse and fraud and who went to prison for it.

quote:Wrong. (I assume you meant 'Browning.') Browning has been quoted numerous times about the SG incorporation and school district initiative. I don't understand why you even question that fact.

quote:No, Asgard pointed out that Browning's brother is the elected Central City Chief of Police. It that is "running him down" then so be it.

Show me where White is paid for anything involving St.George. Same for Rainey. If Rainey ever runs for office, the public can digest any possible wrongdoing, if there is any.
I love how people bring up a $750k contract though. What if his margin was only 10% netting him $75k for 3 years of service? The size of the contract doesn't mean much. Like you, I would like to know more about the details, but until we have them it's merely conjecture. Have you researched how many other no-bid contracts are awarded?
At the end of the day, they are still volunteers. They are helping citizens (like me) move this effort forward. When it comes time to ballots/elections/money we can revisit all of this. There are plenty of qualified individuals to hold office in St.George, once formed. And yes, it's going to happen:)

I just wish Browning would put as much effort into improving the EBR school system as he has trying to break away from it
Agreed, but if the school system hasn't been able to do squat for, oh, 30-40 years, I highly doubt any single person would have much luck.

LOL, you call it pointing out; I called it running him down.
If you read Asgard's numerous posts you get the idea anything affiliated with Central is crooked. sorry, he was trying to belittle Browning's reputation. At least that's how I took it. He surely wasn't trying to flatter the man.

And if you read the article Browning had tried to work within the school system and became frustrated.
And the man is no dummy. He has seen how Central has done well so far as a city and as a school system, and he can see promise in the same for SG.

Bodi "fame whore " White..if i am in the same room with him i want to ask him about the sports complex being built in central on land he owned and bought into 6 months before the contract on the land was announced. he made a cool 100k off that

And so it's okay with you that political butt-buddies can rig what should have been a bid process contract into a no-bid contract? Are you that unethical along with them?

And if you read the article Browning had tried to work within the school system and became frustrated.
It only mentions his volunteer work at Woodlawn High School including being on the PTA and his efforts to form a new school district. There is nothing in the article about him working with the EBR School Board to improve the system.
Stop making up things that aren't true.

So if you don't work with the school board then you aren't working within the school system??????
Huh???????
The guy coached, volunteered at the school, was very involved at Woodlawn, and was in the PTA but since he didn't work with the School Board; he didn't work within the system? Sorry, if you do what he did I say he worked within the system to make it better. He gave his time and talent to do so.

So if you don't work with the school board then you aren't working within the school system??????
I specifically said earlier in this thread that I wished he would put the same amount of effort in either running for school board or showing up at school board meetings and speaking up as he has in the breakaway effort.
If he did that, he seems to have the dynamic personality which might provoke other people to get involved in the system and make the entire school system better. He is the type of person who can be a difference maker and I admire that.
If you continue to reply with the same type of obtuse statements as above, I'm just going to assume you only intend to argue for argument sake and I will ignore your posts. If I don't reply to one of your future posts, don't assume I didn't read it. Just assume I'm ignoring it.

Completely made up, as I stated, nobody knows the margin. I thought using the term "what if" would make that clear. Getting upset about it without knowing what it is, is silly.
quote:

White was helping form the SEBR school district. The legislature said we needed to incorporate in order to form a new school district. Here we are. White is not being paid in any manner for the effort to incorporate the city of St.George.

And so it's okay with you that political butt-buddies can rig what should have been a bid process contract into a no-bid contract? Are you that unethical along with them?
Contracts are issued in this manner all the time. Is it right? That's another debate. What is relevant is that the St.George movement to incorporate is comepletely led by VOLUNTEERS.
