But what I do realize is that you clearly have never had any defensive handgun training. Maybe you should look into that, at which point I'd pay more attention to your simplistic opinions on the attributes one should look for in a carry gun.
I'm failing to understand how not making self defense his #1 priority when getting dressed in the morning means he's never had self defense training or simplistic.
I know a few people who saw active duty and don't carry anything for self defense and I'd say they have more self defense training than your average CCL instructor.

I don't doubt that you could teach me a lot of things. In fact, lots of things you have said on this forum I agree with.
I just think it's downright silly to not take someone seriously because they carry a compact as opposed to a full-sized handgun.
Yes, I know defensive handgun training courses have strict rules on what you can use at their facility.
How about you send me info about your training courses and I will sign up for one as soon as I can.

Can you not take a l defensive training course with a compact weapon?
Posted on 2/16/14 at 12:20 pm to jsb29
Most of them don't allow you to use compact weapons.

If that is what you plan on carrying on a daily basis, why would they not want you learning/practicing with what you carry? Kinda seems like practicing putting with a driver. When it comes time to actually putt with a putter, you're not gonna know whether to scratch your watch or wind your arse.

I never said this -- you did.

If you had asked about three days ago I'd have given you a free seat at Rangemaster's annual tactical Conference in Memphis later this month. Already gave my seat to someone else.
Clear your calendar for Tom Given's upcoming (2 day) Baton Rouge "Combative Pistol" class. I will pay your tuition. All you have to do is get ammo & show up. You will be allowed to shoot your Shield. will

Your tone gives your position away. And I believe you've said similar things before. If I'm confusing you with someone else, then I apologize.
And, I don't own a Shield.
Thanks for the info.

Use any gun you wish, as long as it's 9mm or bigger (for semi-auto). You probably should not take a revolver.
Google Tom Givens or Rangemaster to get an idea of who he is -- one of the best instructors on this planet.
Again, I'll pay your tuition.

Will you pay mine? I'll go.

I shall Google it. Thank you.
That is incredibly generous. Thank you. How expensive is this class?

This is the class. LINK
It's scheduled for May 3-4 in St. Gabriel.
Tom only teaches this class "off-site" (wherever a site sponsor arranges to have the class taught), not in Memphis.
You'll incur some expenses -- such as bringing 1000 rounds of ammo to the class.
You can get my contact info from my redneck website if you decide to attend the class.

Point # 1 would require a long explanation. But suffice it to say I was correct.
I do not disagree with Point # 2. The state of Louisiana sets the bar very low for qualifying as a CHP instructor -- just look at me as an example.
However, I would point out that very few military personnel receive a high level of handgun training.

No. You have always seemed to have a relatively broad and well-founded level of experience.
Besides, I have to set limits on my altruism.

Damn, I've done the Agoge training in BR. That was a blast.

You oughta look into the Givens class. Just make sure those cheap 1911's will withstand 1000 rounds in 2 days.
All I know about the Agoge classes is what I have seen on their website, and I'm sure it's good stuff.
But Tom is literally one of the "gurus of the gurus." That's not just me saying that (not that my opinion would carry much weight anywhere). Ask Massad Aayoob, or John Farnam, or Karl Rehn, or William Aprill, or James Yeager or SouthNarc about him, and you'll get the same answer.
Tom only comes to BR once a year. Some years he teaches a "Level 2" class (only people who have taken his Level 1 class, or an equivalent, can attend). Tom's 2014 class in BR is his signature "Level 1" Combative Pistol class.

There is no way I'll ever take that guy seriously about anything. Don't care what he's talking about or what his credentials are.
