The best analogy I have heard is JJ is the "part 2 Dale" so before he completely lost his mind and forgot how to coach. Dale had it when we made the final four runs but then lost his mind. JJ coaches like the part 2 dale complexly bypassing the first stage that made Dales accomplishments

Dale got to the tourney and won against some very good competition with average talent. He brought some great talent to BR, but also recruited guys who weren't good enough to play in the NBA and did very well with them. The 1986 team is a prime example.

You, like all Daddy Dale Detractors, have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You heard someone say it and think you're smart repeating it.
Dale knew basketball as well and any coaches out there. He used spread offenses, wildly varied defensive strategies, fast break when appropriate, and more to take his teams much farther than they should have gone. All this talk about the talent he had is BS. How many of his players made it BIG in the NBA....ONE...Shaq.
Yes, the game got ahead of him in his later years, but that doesn't define his career, his success does. Was he Dean Smith, no. Was he better than 95% out there and by far the best LSU ever had, YES.
rant over !
ETA
AND ANOTHER THING...
Miles bashers are about the same as Dale bashers, have no idea how much they're going to miss him when he's gone....
