9/10 sheerly for nostagia's sake (though the song is pretty good) - I have fond memories of the late 90's and early 00's and this song is a perfect example of the "low key electronic music with lofty female vocals" genre that was so popular around that time. You like Moon Safari and that album has a lot of that, so you probably know where I'm coming from.

8/10 - Slow for my taste, not much energy.

7/10. Not the biggest Animal Collective fan, but that was a good track. Kind of like the Junip or Zero 7 - not something I'd want to listen to all the time, but it serves its purpose.

9/10. Great stuff. I am unfamiliar with this band, and the singer sounded exactly like Rod Stewart. After an allmusic.com venture it is confirmed. I had no idea he did this, and I will be getting my hands on their music.

I like the piano work a lot, but it's hard to hear a lot of it. The vocals are solid. Maynard really didn't add anything to it. Finally, fricking shitfrick to all the crowd noise. That shite needed to be cleaned out of the mix, not increased.

8/10 that was very good. the sound reminds me of a band called Cellophane from the late 90's that also never made it. I might as well link one of their songs for my next one...

Well, that is quite similar in a lot of ways. Singer even kind of sounds like Billy.

Really good song, but the production quality is understandably a bit on the low side.
To stick with unknown bands that were way too good to go unnoticed:
The Mayan Factor - Warflower
I actually just learned that they are working with a new singer now, which is good to hear. Ray Ray was great, but it's a shame he died and the band seemed to die with him.

Not really my style, but nice song nonetheless. I like how they let the music breathe for large portions of this. Creates a nice atmospheric sound, and it's really open. And good for them for not cheesing it up with some cliche sound breakdown with the build up. Lyrics are solid.
8/10

7/10 Not a fan of country music, so the vocal style doesn't really appeal to me. The music is fantastic, though. That said, dude is baked out his gourd. Good on him to be able to function in that interview.

That's my feeling on Sturgill Simpson. I've listened to him a bit lately due to all the ejaculate on this board for him, and that ejaculate is well deserved. I dislike country, but this is an exception.

7/10 very cool song. reminds me of Kings of Leon after their great years, but these guys do it much better. KoL sound like failures.

Really interesting song. I really like the production. It toes the line to overproduction without falling over it, particularly the vocals. They get so wet at times, but it avoids cheese somehow.
Now I'm going to throw a curve ball out there:
Tinariwen - Cler Achel

I'm more of a String Cheese/ Phish kinda guy if I'm going to listen to a non lyrical jam session. It was very soothing music though.

The guitar riff is very reminiscent of the melody from Weezer - Undone. The guy's voice is just a little too nasally for my taste. In fairness, the whole revival movement or whatever you call it does very little for me.

7/10 cool song. reminds me of The Bravery's first release
In anticipation of the band I am most looking forward to this weekend at Jazz Fest (only because I'm heading to Houston for the My Morning Jacket show tomorrow night, so I'm not going to see them at JF friday):

6.5/10 Catchy tune. I guess it kind of sounds like Americana, but without sounding like everything else, which is a good thing.
