After getting asked to leave my elementary school, I started going to schools outside of Chalmette. For HS i went to Brother Martin and it is amazing how many people from all over the metropolitan area I have befriended. We had people commuting from BR, Ponchatoula, and even Mississippi.
All my old friends who stayed in Chalmette for school basically only had fellow "Chalmations" in their group.
Wouldn't change my childhood for anything but I am so grateful to have ventured out early on.

Something you really take for granted when you live there. Hell, I'm in Algiers now and will gladly drive across the river to Today's Catch.

When I was growing up down there it was well known that it was illegal to be black after nightfall unless you were down in Angelique or some other shithole down-the-road.
walkers lane was about the only foothold they had for a while...but even they knew their place...

The ball parks. When I grew up there, youth athletics pitted neighborhood against neighborhood. You lived in Buccaneer Villa North, you played for Vista; you lived in Arabi, you played for Carolyn Park, etc. There were rivalries with your classmates at school. The system in Slidell sucks by comparison.
you failed to mention Versailles or Rebel Park
