In front of kids. Apparently things are a little different in Denmark. Serious circle of life shite going on here.

Did you read the article on why they did this?

Wow. This is actually encouraging that someone in a position of power has the nuts to do this and stand up to the ridiculous public reaction. What really gets me is that PETA themselves kill thousands of shelter animals every year and no one seems to give a shite about that.

Didn't want it cross breeding. I get it, but not sure why they wouldn't give it to one of the zoos that volunteered to take it.
Ohh, here's a better idea. Let's shoot this thing in the head, chop it up into pieces, and feed it to the other animals at the zoo. Too far? Nah. Make sure to get some 8 year olds to watch the whole thing...

zoo passed up on half a mil from a private investor and offers from other zoos for this stunt..

Had the balls not to give the animal to zoos that volunteered to care for it?
Yeah, pretty ballsy there.

I thought it was pretty shitty considering someone was willing to pay over $600,000 to take the animal in.

I know I will get hate for this, but Europeans are some weird fricks.... America has its share of horror stories too though.

So they didn't want the giraffe population ending up like Alabama in-breds. Am I reading that correctly?

Supply and demand. Lions > giraffe
Not saying I agree...just sayin.

Culling pussy is a sin.

But they had the supply and the demand. Not sure I follow your logic.

They should've blasted his head off with a shotgun for not taking the money. Poor Giraffe.

Mr. Holst said he had decided against sending Marius to another zoo because doing so would have opened the door to inbreeding and potentially removed a place for a giraffe whose genetic makeup was more valuable in terms of future offspring in captive breeding programs. He seemed caught off guard by the public protest, calling it “totally out of proportion.”

If you don't want it to reproduce, why not just have in nuetered rather than killing it?
Posted on 2/10/14 at 12:06 am to fr33manator
I wonder if people realize they still kill giraffe for leather.
