After doing your taxes, if you owe the government money, what could you purchase for that amount?

Me. A brand new full size sedan. Sucks to be me right now.

I don't understand how people owe on taxes. Do you guys have a high number of withholdings?

Didn't pick my deductions well and made more money this year. Plus AMT. Not a subtle brag at all because if you live in the Bay Area, chances you are paying AMT.

I make good money too but am careful with my deductions. I tithe, write off mileage, donate to Salvation Army, get tax breaks for owning a home, etc.

Does your spouse work?

My wife being stay at home helps too.

A lot of people that don't know how income tax really works make themselves look pretty dumb in these threads

We always got a refund UNTIL Obama became president and his policies were enacted and the Bush tax cuts expired. Now we are always owing $8-$10k.

Do you use a CPA? Best $180 I spend all year.

He consults with me after each return I give him yearly to make sure everything looks good.
