that really makes a game unwatchable, even if we were fouling a lot it is hard to believe a team could commit that many fouls. anytime you have a crew call more fouls than we played minutes something needs to be changed

is there anywhere we can get our hands on the shot chart from last night?
you know, the one with the basketballs placed from the location of each UGA shot

I know a lot of people are saying SEC refs are terrible, but there are no SEC basketball refs. All of them are independent contractors, throughout the NCAA.
I'd like to see the SEC actually employ their own officials with the stated purpose of improving the quality of the product.
Dale Brown said something similar last week

"I don't think officials are paid nearly what they are worth, and they need to jack the price up," Brown said...."Ninety percent of time that I chewed on a ref, I'd go back, look at the film and say, 'I'll be damned, I was wrong.'"
Damn near fell out my chair when I read the last bit. Never thought I'd hear that from Dale.

It was a terrible game to watch. The teams shot 68 free throws. Come on...that's pathetic.
UGA shot well/hustled and LSU didn't play that good. But when you have to bench your best player and lay off the press because every trip down the court results in a foul, you've got problems. LSU wasn't even playing that aggressive, yet were getting called for fouls constantly. The UGA guard threw himself into JOB to get a 4th foul on him.

This is ridiculous. People blaming CJJ. One poster said CJJ shoulda played zone to protect JOB. Hey dumbass, his 2 first half fouls we were in zone...way to pay attention.
21 fouls in the 2nd half. Shavon Coleman fouled out and didn't touch a player to do it. Every starter had at least 4 fouls and 2 fouled out. If they screened, we HAD to let them get in the lane otherwise it was a foul. Every time we hedged they purposely ran into our big men and got a foul. People who don't see how the officiating DIRECTLY had an effect on the defense clearly knows ZERO about basketball.
CJJ was very demonstrative at times at the refs, but what's he supposed to do? We're in a 7-8 point hole, you want him to get a technical and give them 2 more free throws? That's brilliant.
We lost because our best players, for that matter the entire team, was in significant foul trouble. You cant play defense when if you touch them it's a foul. I don't understand how people don't see that. Their 6'5 guard ducked his shoulder and ran into the lane...blocking foul every time on hickey or TQ. It was absolutely atrocious officiating

That was poor defense

I don't know that JJ did everything he could, but other than that....
great post!

This isn't the first time this season that LSU had 30ish fouls and had The other team attempt 40ish FT when LSU is on the road.
The UMASS game was just as unbearable to watch and LSU even almost won that game.

dumbass here. Just becuase his first two fouls came in zone doesnt mean he shouldnt have went back to it.
Zone is frequently used to limit foul risk. Playing with 3-4 fouls in zone is safer than playing with 3-4 fouls in man.
you can play aggressive in either and get fouls. the difference is youre often in better position in zone which is less condusive to fouling.

LSU was so late off the screens and let UGA get past em. That first half was terrible to watch them go through the motions without any fire.
JOB commits two right off the bat and none of LSU's guys were in the game the first half. Without some good 3s, it would have been even worse.
Seems like that wanted to see just how little an effort they could give and still be in a position to win at the end.
Don't move your feet = getting a foul called with your hands.

To let UGA score 91 is pretty bad but you go on the road in the SEC and you have to beat the refs too.

The foul trouble absolutely had an effect on the way LSU defended last night. However that doesn't mean that this team hasn't played poor defense all year. They are LAST in SEC conf games in scoring defense. (203 overall in ppg allowed) Even in games where the refs haven't been quick with the whistle, teams have been able to get to the rim against LSU anytime they wanted to. Mickey's effort has covered up for A LOT of shitty defense by his teammates.
Last night's game may have been a bit on an anomoly in the way the game was called, but it wasn't an anomoly in the lack of effort on the defensive end by LSU

Certainly true. But you would think that at some point LSU would have tried to do the same thing on offense. Instead, except for far too few possesions, LSU was content to shoot jumpers on the perimeter. Did you notice that Martin and Mickey got to the line when they made agressive moves to the bucket? It's beyond me why now 21 games into the season we still have a 6'9" athletic wing who is content to shoot low % jumpers, and a 6'5" slashing 2 guard who more and more is settling for 3 point attempts. Attack the basket!!

LSU needed to do a better job of drawing fouls but it did seem like every ticky tack foul went against LSU and UGA was mugging LSU players sometimes with no call

this is absolutely false. When jobIII got his fourth foul. Martin attacked on three to four strait trips down the floor. There was a lot of contact on those trips and no foul called. we lost three straight possessions because they rebounded a ball, one went out of bounds, another was a scramble where they called time out.
Go back on the u.g.a. side, those are called fouls on three straight possessions. Again, lsu didn't lose because of refs. The refs contributed and were horrible. worst i've ever seen.
You know they are part of the game when you have kids jumping into people to get a foul. tells you all you need to know. they should be embarrassed that the kids aren't playing, they are acting out fouls.
