I have always used Taxact to do my taxes, but I am thinking about getting a CPA this year.Does anyone know any good CPA’s? This seriously stresses me out! I don’t understand half the questions they ask on that damn website!

CPA - my taxes are way too complicated for me to do.

A good CPA is worth their weight in gold. I saved more than $4k last year using a CPA vs. Turbo Tax. Plus the peace of mind is invaluable.

depends on how complex your return is

Been using Mary K. Carleton for the last 15yrs - it is a breeze - wife and I are both retired.

How much do they usually charge?

I guess it depends on your situation.
I used a CPA the year I got a huge bonus from work that wasn't taxed. Didn't want to file wrong.
That was the only year though. Don't own property or a bunch of deductions so using online programs works for me.
But if you have more complex stuff or itemize than maybe a CPA would be better for you.
ETA: Cost me $200 to use a CPA....that's cheap actually from what I've heard

Not if you have a w-2, some mortgage interest, property tax, and donated 3 bags of clothes to goodwill

i think that would depend on what type of/how many types of income, assets and liabilities you have

this, i am not married, do not own a home, do not own my own business, am not a vet, and i do not travel for work.
i do the turbotax simple file and the only two things i fill in are W-2 info and student loan info.

Turbo tax is horrible. Last night I was on Taxact...one min I was rich...then next min I owed a ton back! No clue what the hell I did. So I am calling a CPA. Can I bring old tax returns to see if I did them right? Maybe I can get more money!

Mother is a CPA. Brilliant woman when it comes to doing taxes.

I've never done my own. CPA since 17 or 18. I forget. I want no tax worries from the gubment.

Those online programs are pretty easy though. It literally takes you through every situation and you answer yes or no and fill out numbers where needed.

It's worth the $100 my wife and I pay to have a CPA do it
