My grandpa used to tell me stories about how he would wait outside for the stage coach to arrive on campus so he could see the new recruits. It was mighty risky recruiting a kid from out west, he explained. LSU lost a few high profile recruits when they were killed by Indians, trying to move across the plains to get here. The recruits that did make it were tough bastards. Many of them had confirmed kills. Those were the days...
