If someone accepts / cashes a USPS money order and does not ship the item, it is mail fraud. It is a felony crime. Any such crimes would be investigated by the US Postal Inspectors Service.

Meh. I have read enough horror stories about deals gone bad to know that this level of 'protection' is overblown. In several cases the USPS didn't even really investigate what happened. This shouldn't be counted on as a deterrent IMO.

The best thing is to research the seller BEFORE sending payment and go with your gut to determine if they are legit. CC payment is always, always best if possible (not debit card). Consider the usual 3% CC charge on GB items to be a type of insurance.

As for the the original question, are we really discussing how to save 50 cents on a money order?
