I'm in a dead period on my series and I've heard mixed things on this show. Is it worth a watch? Or is it a girly kind of show with vampires?

No. Not even a little bit. I made it through 1.5 episodes and gave up on it. Horrible acting and accents. I'm assuming women of low-intelligence keep it on the air.

Well, my wife recently read the books so I watched the show with her. We just started Season 5, and to me, the show is pretty decent. The accents and certain characters/storylines will probably annoy the shite out of you, but I kind of like the show.
And I am by no means a vampire, werewolf, other crazy shite type fan.
Plus, tons of tits and arse! Sometimes man arse however.
And I would do unspeakable things to this character! Always found her smokin!

Yea I'm not to judge mental on movie if they are entertaining but I didn't want to start buying series if they aren't worth a shite

Yep, what Hugo said. And if you read the books, according to my wife anyways, there is not a lot about them that are similar other than character names.

I've been watching the show since it first debuted and it has really gotten ridiculous. Season 6 was terrible 
. The last season (Season 7) comes on this summer and at this point, I figure I may as well finish it out since I've stuck with it this long.
Seasons 1 and 2 were the best seasons. Season 3 is when the show started to get super ridiculous, and I can't even with Seasons 5 and 6 with the Authority crap and how they made such a big deal about Terry

GF likes the show and I get extremely bored during the episodes and will usually play with my ipad or read a book while she's watching.

If you like scifi/fantasy or the vampire/supernatural genre then it's probably worth checking out. If you like premium cable network original series because you're a hormone addled teenager that thinks gratuitous violence and nudity make a show better then it's probably worth checking out. Basically it's an averagish scifi show with lots of blood and nudity because it's on HBO. If it was on SyFy rather than HBO you probably wouldn't have ever heard of it.

This is an insanely accurate description.
I've stuck with it thus far. This last season was much better than the previous two, but its so freakin all over the place. I get the feeling that they don't really know what the endgame will be, so each season doesn't really advance the show towards any specific direction.

Yeah, we started 5 last night, but the whole maenad from 3 and witch from 4 were bizarre for me.
Yeah, this whole military friend and the burning houses is interesting to me. Can tell its going to go somewhere, but why pick Terry to build a story around? Seems kind of off. ETA: When whatshisnuts came back from the grave with the whole uprising of the dead, he told Arlene to watch out for Terry. I am guessing it expands on that.
As an aside, anyone have an idea when 6 will come out on DVD?
