Credit Unions > Banks
Most Credit Unions are linked up to the same network, so you can access your money across the country. While their mobile apps lack behind the big banks, they still work just fine. My Credit Union does not charge an overdraft fee. They don't require a minimum balance, have a monthly service fee, etc. A book of checks are $8. Their interest rates often times are better than banks. Their CC interest rates are usually lower than banks.

All of this ^
I switched from Chase and couldn't be happier. There are actually more ATM locations that I can use for free than I had with Chase. It's any Wal-Greens, CVS, COSTCO and most gas stations.
ETA: Forgot to mention that when I travel I can use any other Credit Union in the network which is around 99% of them. It's how they are able to keep up with the big banks and still offer their services so cheap and reliably.
