This might be a stupid question, but how do you measure that sort of thing?

Google Scotty Cameron California. The first generation were the bronze color.

There's a little tool where you hold it at a certain angle and see how far the ball rolls out on a flat part of the green or something like that. His was a guess, but he's played in a few pro events so I'm sure he's seen some quick ones. I remember having a downhill put where I took it back about an inch and it rolled about 25 feet

From the looks of the line on that site, it's definitely a Newport 1 or 2. The one I played with and am looking for is what I mean.

Not a stupid question. I would bet the average weekend golfer who claims "Yeah, these are rolling about a 12" has no clue what a stimpmeter looks like.

It was invented for superintendents to measure consistency of greens throughout their course.

Basically, you hold the metal "rail" at an angle and let the ball roll down. How far it rolls out is the "stimp reading".

That's around the price I'm looking to pay. $150 would be nice.

Join golfwrx.com and start a "want to buy" ad. You'll probably find one around that price.

We have the longest continual putting green surface in the world (according to my professor, not sure if he's telling the truth).

We have a bentgrass, TifEagle, Champion, MiniVerde, Seadwarf (Seashore paspalum), and then we recently planted the first ever NTEP putting green trials. These are two greens with different cultivars and experimental cultivars in about 6'x4' blocks. We have a zoysiagrass NTEP trial, and bermudagrass. After that, you have my putting green where my shade trial is conducted (TifEagle, MSU-285, Champion, MiniVerde, Diamond zoysia).

They are all used for different trials. We have a turf undergrad that co-op'd at the North Farm who mows every day. Not sure what height he cuts. But ball roll is often measured in different trials.
