Inflammation
I read something that claims Diabetes is nothing more than inflammation, too.
I just recently was diagnosed as Type 2 and have lost 22lbs and my A1c gone from 11.9 to 5.5, by eating better, giving up the sodas and taking Metfornin, which I hope to be rid of soon. I'm interested in learning more about the inflammation aspect though.

That would be a negative Cinci. Different issue. Blood sugar will go up in cases of infection though.

OTOH, weight loss w/ Type 2 DM is very helpful, as you've discovered. Congrats on dropping the 22#'s

I'm right there with you, Cincy. I've lost about 15 pounds. Although I was told that it was "pre" Type 2.

A friend went through this about a year ago. He lost 25 pounds and was taken off the metformin.

I have a follow up in a month. My doc told me that if I lose about 30 pounds all together, I'll probably no longer need the metformin. My blood pressure and cholesterol were on the "high side of normal," but the doc thinks everything will be fine once I drop the 30 pounds.

I also spoke with a nutritionist and I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. Obviously, going the vegan route would be best, but that's just not going to happen. I watch my sugar intake, my calorie intake and my "bad carb" intake. I've been eating a lot of baked chicken and fish (seafood). For me, the key is portion control and moderation.

However, more than anything, my doctor told me that exercise is the most important thing. I joined a gym and I've been doing 45 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes on the bike. I can't wait until the weather gets better so that I can start walking/jogging.

Good Luck, Cincy!
