What am I missing? I get that he's a good recruiter, but what, in his past, proves that he is a great coach? All I have heard is that he is a so-so coach. Is it the fact that he stated that he wants LSU to be the toughest?

It doesn't matter what you have on your wall or in your resume...if guys won't follow you, you're not a leader.
I bet the guys will want to play for Grimes. He appears to have the talent AND leadership skills to develop and motivate players.
As much as I would love to see a former LSU player on the staff, I'm glad we didn't cloud our judgment and select someone based solely on that criteria.

I'm Looking Forward to Leonard Fournette Leaving Footprints on beaten down defensive lineman!
