I mentioned this a while back, and I think people don't appreciate what a huge loss Kromer leaving to Chicago was. There is a reason our line was stable for most of Payton's tenure here no matter who played. The only major hick up came when Kromer was staffed with being head coach and couldn't focus his time on the OL.
Ingalls is simply not that good. May be a good RB coach, but as an OL he's very suspect. The whole OL regressed, so you can't place it on one player, thus it goes back to coaching.
Munchak would be a great hire and they could reassign Ingalls. He's also got talent to work with here. Hell, I'd even can Carmichael and replace him with Munchak since Payton is really who runs the offense just to get him as OL coach.

Or the left tackle sucked horrifically, the two guards are aging/beat up and unable to protect the below average center, and the right tackle played at his ceiling which isn't the highest.
If we're gonna blame/credit coaching how about the fact that a rookie left tackle from Arkansas pine bluff arguably looked better than a former pro bowler in bushrod? Considering rookies are likely impacted more than 8 year veterans by a position coach I'd say he did pretty damn well. Or maybe it all comes back to actual talent/athleticism ....
